Confirm not Conform

Confirm not Conform is the religious instruction that we give to youth as they are entering their teen years, similar to the confirmation classes that are offered in other churches. But rather than being about "doing what you're told", our confirmation is completing a rigorous journey of exploration. Our classes respect the growing empowerment of the youth and the onset of more adult responsibilities. The classes show, both in content and form, that we believe them capable of making their own faith choices. Our task is to expose them to ideas, religions, experiences and concepts, and let the Holy Spirit and their own engagement do the rest. Our program focuses more on their questions than our answers, and put us in the role of companions and guides rather than instructors.

Field trips and action projects compliment the classroom work. Youth who complete this course can undergo a confirmation rite in the church where the bishop presides.

In addition to the class for the youth, another class is held for adults who want to reexamine and strengthen their faith. These attend on a purely voluntary basis, and can enter and leave the class at any time as it progresses over the weeks.

Both classes are held on alternating Wednesday evenings in the Youth Room and the library, starting at 5:30 pm. A light supper is provided.
