United Thank Offering, often referred to as UTO, is a ministry of the Episcopal Church that provides a way for men, women, and children of the Episcopal Church to give daily thanks to God. Every year, the total offering is between two and a half and three million dollars—all of which is used for projects at home and abroad to support grants for missions and ministry.
UTO boxes with slots in their tops for coins and small bills can be seen on tables at various places around our church, and we offer individual boxes that you can take home with you.
UTO's mission is to expand the circle of thankful people by encouraging daily prayers, offerings and awareness of the abundance of God’s blessings.
UTO originated in 1889 as part of the Women’s Auxiliary to the Board of Missions. Emphasis was on mission work in the U.S. and overseas, and support and training for women working in the church. UTO has grown into a ministry of the whole church – men, women and children.
UTO’s vision is to significantly impact the lives of women and children because of Christ’s love. To achieve this vision we will focus particularly on projects that implement significant change toward alleviating profound human suffering that the Millennium Development Goals address. Our work will directly impact the lives of women and children, and will continue our historic mission to address compelling human need and expand the mission and ministry of the church. Our new vision will be reflected in the 2009 UTO grant criteria and awards.
