Holy Week at Grace

For 2,000 years Christians have participated in various practices to remember the last week of Jesus from - his triumphant entry into Jerusalem to his last meal, death, and resurrection. It is in this context that we receive the “mandatum” (Latin for mandate) to “that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another” (John 13:34, NRSVUE). Join us at Grace for a week of some of the most engaging and powerful worship experiences in our tradition: from joyfully processing into the church with palm branches on Palm Sunday, to stripping the altar as we move from Maundy Thursday into Good Friday, to beginning our Easter Vigil in darkness before joyfully entering into a resurrected light. • Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
    Hosanna in the highest.

On Palm Sunday we will start outside with blessed palms, then process together into the church, remembering Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem.

The service moves from joyful “Hosannas” to the solemn reading of the Passion, as we walk with Christ toward the cross and the hope of Easter.

Children and newcomers are very welcome. Palms will be provided, and everyone will have a part in the procession.

Come, walk with us, and enter Holy Week in prayer and in hope.

  • By this shall the world know that you are my disciples: That you have love for one another.

Maundy Thursday marks the beginning of the Triduum, the great three days of our Lord’s passion, death, and resurrection. On this night we remember how Jesus washed the feet of his friends, gave us the new commandment to love one another, and instituted the Holy Eucharist at the Last Supper.

Our service will include Holy Communion and, for those who wish, the symbolic washing of feet as a sign of humble service. At the end of the liturgy the altar is stripped and the church grows quiet as we remember Jesus’ agony in the garden and his arrest.

It is a powerful and moving service, suitable for older children, youth, and adults.

All are welcome to come, watch, pray, and keep company with Christ on the night before he died for us.

  • We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You.
Because by Your Holy Cross You have redeemed the world.

In the 4th century pilgrims to Jerusalem would walk around the city to visit holy sites, including the path Jesus walked to the cross. This practice eventually morphed into a service that Christian across the world celebrate with 14 stations found inside churches like Grace. Join us for this powerful journey as we walk the way of the cross with Jesus and his friends on his last day.

  • Dear People of God: Our heavenly Father sent his Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved; that all who believe in him might be delivered from the power of sin and death, and become heirs with him of everlasting life.

Good Friday is the most solemn day of the Christian year, when we stand at the foot of the cross and remember the death of Jesus for the life of the world. At Grace we will gather in quiet, with scripture, prayer, and the reading of the Passion.

There will be time to reflect, to pray before the cross, and to bring to God the suffering of our own lives and of the world. The service is simple, powerful, and centered on the mystery of Christ’s love poured out for us.

All are welcome. You do not need to know what to say or believe. Just come, be still, and keep company with the Lord in his hour of sorrow.

  • This is the night, when all who believe in Christ are delivered from the gloom of sin, and are restored to grace and holiness of life.

The Easter Vigil is the Church’s great night of watching and prayer as we move from darkness into the light of Christ’s Resurrection. We will hear the story of God’s saving work throughout the scriptures, renew our baptismal faith in the waters that have across time and creation, and celebrate the first joyful Eucharist of Easter. During the service, our catechumens (those who have prepared for baptism throughout Lent) will be baptized and welcomed into the household of God.

  • Alleluia. Christ is risen.
The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia.

Join us on Easter Sunday as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and the victory of life over death. Our Easter service will be filled with joyful music, familiar hymns, and the beauty of the Holy Eucharist as we proclaim the good news that the tomb is empty and hope is alive.

This is a wonderful day to invite family, friends, and neighbors. Children are very welcome, and newcomers will find the service clear, warm, and easy to follow.

Come share in the light, joy, and promise of Easter at Grace.
