The season of “Lent” (from the Old English word for “spring”) has historically been a time for prayer, fasting, self-denial, and preparation for those seeking to be baptized.
At Grace, we invite you to join us by praying evening prayer with us on Wednesday nights at 6:00 p.m. followed by family activity nights at 6:30 p.m. where we will have engaging conversations and activities for all generations to help us practice a “holy Lent.”
Additionally, individuals and families can choose to participate in Lent in ways that God calls them to. Some choose to fast or give up foods like meat in solidarity with the poor, while others take on practices like daily prayer, reading scripture, and regular reflection on the ways God is working in their lives.
May you have a holy Lent, however you choose to observe!
The Season of Lent at Grace
Shrove Tuesday is traditionally a day of feasting before we enter into the more solemn season of Lent. Shrove comes from the Middle English “shriven” or “shryven,” which refers to absolution. It is also connected with the practice of “Mardi Gras,” which is French for Fat Tuesday and is usually celebrated with a carnival.
We invite you to feast with us on Tuesday, February 17th at 6:00 p.m. at our Pancake & Pajamas Party supporting Grace Scouts! There are no tickets, just donate whatever you are able and feel called to!
