Godly Play

Godly Play is an experiential program for children from pre-kindegarten through the 5th grade, that teaches them the art of using religious language by  helping them become more fully aware of the mystery of God’s presence in their lives.  Godly Play deepens the spiritual and creative side of children as well as their teachers.  The program is used by many Christian denominations as well as in schools, hospitals, retirement centers and even homeless shelters.

It is Montessori based religious education. It is an approach that allows children to enter into parables, sacred stories and sacred liturgy in order to discover more about God, themselves, one another and the world around them.

The Godly Play environment is both open and boundaried to be a safe place in which a creative encounter with God can flourish. Classroom time consists of entering the space, building the circle, hearing and responding to the story, sharing the feast and saying goodbye.

Godly Play materials and manipulatives are both purchased and homemade, and can be used throughout the years for multiple classrooms and age levels, and a variety of less traditional settings, such as hospitals and nursing homes. We currently have two Godly Play classes. Funding for new materials has been provided by several generous donors.
